Modify titleblock params from sheet properties

We're wanting to alter params on a titleblock from the sheets properties panel.

We've been successful in adding a label to the titleblock, setting up a shared param for it, adding that shared param to the project (tied to sheets) and then we can see that param under the sheet properties and it will change in the titleblock. Works great. Here's where things get trickier...

What we're trying to do is control the visibility of items via instance params (architectural stamps, in this case).

We added new shared params, then added those to the params list in the titleblock family. The objects' visibility is tied to them, no problem.

We added the same shared params to the sheets in the project.

When we click on a sheet in the project, the params show, but they do not affect the status of the same params on the titleblock. If I select the titleblock, I can alter the params there, but changing them on the sheet level does nothing. In fact, by default the params are all grayed out on the sheet properties.

The goal is to be able to select multiple sheets and change these params instead of having to open each sheet, select the titleblock, change the params, rinse and repeat.

Any idea if what we're trying to do is possible. It seems like we're so close!

Thanks!

Matt

Because stamp visibility parameters belong to the Titleblock and not the Sheet. Titleblock is not a sheet.
Titleblock is like a Tag of a Sheet to keep the labels for Sheet parameters (and Project Info parameters). Changing a sheet parameter can only change the content of the associated label, not visibility of any element in the titleblock.

As an example, you can place two identical titleblocks on a sheet and turn on the stamp fr one and off for the other.  They have nothing to do with a visibility parameter from the Sheet.

Hmmm, gotcha. And so that only pertains to visibility related params? Labels still work.

So, let's say, for example, I set up a param that is text, like a label. And then if I type "Off" into it and another param is looking at that param and if it says "Off" an item is hidden. Would that work? Seems like if I can control text content of a param on a titleblock from the Sheet properties panel, then I should be able to find some way to affect visibility of an item via a Shared Param.

Hello

Easy way would be to create sub family of Title block

Example

A1Sheet - SD stage ( stamp 1)

A1 Sheet - DA Stage (stamp 2)

A2 Sheet - Stamp 1

A2 Sheet - Stamp 2

so sub family “ Stamp 1” for example, you can control multiple elements visibility...

so in the project, you just need to select the correct sub family of the title block and its done..

( which you are looking for )

rather than selecting the sheet and then changing parameter...

hope that helps.

You can only change the value of a label from saying something to saying nothing (blank).  For example, a Yes/No parameter (param1) is added to Sheet, a label added to the titleblock with a formula: if (param1, "my signature", " ").  The result is that if the parameter is checked, the label will literally show "my signature", and if the parameter is clear, the label show blank.

There you can see the application is quite limited and I don't think it will work for you unless your stamp is entirely compiled from labels.

I'm not quite following your methodology yet, @Corsten.Au . The point of this exercise is to let us add a stamp to a SHEET (yes, I know it's inderictly adding it to the titleblock) from the sheet properties. If we have to go in and manipulate titleblock properties, either Type or Instance, then we're having to open the sheet to get to the titleblock. Being able to CTRL-click several sheets (or SHIFT-click them all) in the Project Browser and change these things would be SO much faster. This morning I had a small project, around 15 sheets that I had to open each sheet, select the titleblock, and click to show the seal. Took way too long just to do the exact same thing for each sheet. If I could select them all and then turn on the stamp, I'd have been done almost instantly.
Maybe there's another way to get this functionality. If so, I'm all ears! 🙂

You can just select one titleblock on one sheet, right click and select all in project, then turn on/off the stamp.

Yeah, I guess I just don't understand the disconnect. Is it limited to just affecting labels? I'm just wondering at what point the shared params fail to propagate from sheet to titleblock. If a label works (based on a basic text param), why doesn't any other param?

Yeah, we though about that, too. And in the case this morning, that would have worked. But for revisions or in cases where you might have different stamps, dates, etc. You might want to be more granular in selecting what happens to each sheet.

Not meaning to shoot down every idea. Just trying to find if there's a way to make this work and not a work-around that doesn't really save time. Although, as I said, in my instance this morning, selecting all titleblocks in the project definitely would have been faster.

Thanks!

The only connection is the Sheet parameters value -> the Titleblock labels content. Period. It is exactly the same as the relationship between a Door and a Door Tag.

Okay. So completely limited to labels. Gotcha.

Thanks!

You can create Visibility in the block Family.

( Instance Parameter ) or ( Shared - Instance Parameter )

check out this screencast... still uploading

Thanks, @Corsten.Au . That's basically exactly what we already have. We can click a check box after selecting the titleblock to show the desired stamp. What we were hoping to do was have that functionality without opening the sheet to select the titleblock. Just have a shared param applied to the sheet that would translate to the titleblock. Apparently only works with text params and Labels and not any parameter.

You mean pretty much what is said in the "Controlling Visibility of Architectural Stamp in Titleblock" AKN article that I posted earlier?  Or no?
