Modified roof

I modified a roof to get the form (see the photo) with a split line then modify the points. The result is fine but only the triangular part is acting like a face.

the ohter part is not. I need to use families with a face function. How to manage that?modified roof.PNG

BY any chances (it's a long shot) is Place on Vertical Face / Work Plane checked? Can you share the file? I have duplicated your situation, but with no issues. That will show me what it is that I am missing.

When I added a face based generic family in plan, I was able to see them in 3D, but not when I inserted them in a plan view. You may need to manipulate your View Range. Otherwise, worked fine for me.

Maybe my file can tell you more....

Hej Oakam:

Opened the file and without trying anything fancy managed to get a face-based generic family to load onto both sides of the roof. What was the family you were trying to load?

That is because the ladder is not hosted to a face. Copy the geometry to a generic model face based family template, reproduce the parameters, and then change the category to Specialty Equipment.

Sorry wrong addressee.

@Anonymous

The Ladder family is fine.  It is a line based family so you have the option to pick a face or a Workplane when place it in project.  You can use Workplane and pick a face or the roof.

@Anonymous

Now I have a chance to look at your roof.  My explanation for you not being able to pick the 4-point part as a face is that the surface is non-planar.  It is warped.  Remember the basic geometry lesson?  3 points always makes a plane, 4 points may not.

I added a spit line and sure enough, I could place the ladder on it.  In the image below I use Linework to make the line invisible, but it is there.

Thank you very much to draw my attention to that. What do you mean by I used aline work to make the line invisible?

Linework tool on the Modify ribbon panel. But it will be better if you can adjust the points height do that it is a true planar surface.

Excuse me for many question. But I still don't get how you hide it with linework tool. It is will be much easier to do like that just now.

Thank you.
