Model with only openings

Hello all,

The architect created the existing building and I need to create a model only with the openings (wall/ floors) in the existing building (without add the walls /floors in my model).

How I could do it ? I should create a void family (no wall/floor based) ?

Thank you in advance !

I'd say the best approach is to create a solid generic family; name is properly and place it into a designated workset so that it can be easily isolated in coordinated models. Most companies I work with do it this way.

Are you asking how to make openings in a existing building model?

Hard to understand what you mean by "I need to create a model ONLY with the openings".  That doesn't make sense.  Opening in what?  Can you explain?

Please explain.  I've never see a setup like this before where solids represent openings.  What am I missing - besides coffee?  :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:

These can represent builders work opes for services for instance. In some project these do not need to be opes as such, it is just an indication where the opes (services) are supposed to be and its sizes so that other can add these to their design and/or perform a clash detection against these elements only.

From what it sounds like... You are doing the new construction on an Existing building and you were given a model of the Existing conditions. Now you want to coordinate the Wall and Floor openings from the existing model into You model. Do I have the right?

Sounds like a Chicken-Egg workflow to me.  But whatever.  Thanks for explaining.   It'll give me something to think  about over my next cup of coffee.  :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:

Are you trying to create opening on a linked model?

Hello all,

Thank you for the time and sorry for my explication that it wasn't very understandable. Yes I wanted to create 'openings' or indicate in the 3D space where openings should be created in the existing building. So the proposition to create a solid generic family it works for me.

Thank you!

Hi @mairh_tsek,

If you are still searching for opening families, Conclass offers free opening families for your use case.

You can also generate the openings automatically using the ConVoid plug-in.
