Model dubble-curvature beam

Hi! My first post here.

I want to model some beams like ones attached below, so curved in plan but also in elevation.

Is it possible to model and rebar it in a clean way?

Thanks! Immagine.jpg

You can do it in several ways , but I think the more appropriate one is to create a Sweep:

  • first create a curved Wall that has the desired curvature in Horizontal Projection of the Beam
  • then create a Roof by Extrusion that has the curvature of the Beam in Vertical Projection
  • Attach the Wall ( Top) to the Roof
  • Create then, a Component Model in Place>Structural Frame>Sweep . Pick the intersection line (Wall/Roof) to be the Path and choose the appropriate beam section Profile previously loaded.
  • The Sweeped Beam will have a double curvature now.

The result:

...and the screencast that shows the steps:

note:in my screencast, as I had no appropriate Profiles loaded , I had to make a custom rectangle profile for the Sweep.
