Missing Many Elements

Hey all

I know this has been posted time and time again, and I have tackled a lot of workarounds in different threads and forums, but I still can't find why it happens.

Sorry for throwing a lot out here, but some of it is thinking out loud.

  • I have seen this error happen on all years from 2017 - 2022 inclusive. All versions are updated to latest build.
  • Sometimes, one user can't even open the model due to this error, while others can continue working and syncing, but as soon as they close and try to reopen, they can't... the error pops up.
  • I have restored many files and looked in journal files for missing element ID's, but what does this do other than locate the issue elements. It does not show me what happened, or am I missing something in the journal file that someone could explain.
  • Has anyone narrowed it down as to why it happens? Does it happen from syncing at the same time? I don't believe this cause you can't sync at the same time. Revit is just busy when another person tries to sync.
  • We have transferred some projects to BIM 360 and have yet to see this issue on those projects, so why does it happen a lot on non-cloud models?
  • I thought the issue carried over from an old Revit template, so I made a new one for a new project, and instructed everyone to not load from old projects, which they have not, but the issue happened again. I also thought groups were the issue along with nested groups, but no groups on this project yet.
  • Does saving local as timestamps cause an issue considering those models are in the same folder? Maybe something with the cache. I am not a fan of timestamps considering we have local and central backups for every save and sync.
  • The most recent issue was missing elements I found from the journals. I restored the model and found the elements with the IDs. A user said she deleted some of those elements from her local yesterday, so I am guessing this is part of the reason. But is it? Surely we can just delete elements and carry on working? Should someone sync straight after deleting and element and instruct everyone else to reload latest? That is a time consuming task!

Any further information on this would be great.

Hello @Kev_D

I understand you are trying to find the root cause of this problem. I'm sorry to hear this is a problem for you.

This appears to be some type of corruption but difficult to know without collecting more information.

Thanks for the reply @michael.coviello, but your reply is far from a solution. It only points me towards 2 links which I have referred to many times. Those links are not the answer.

I am looking to see if anyone else in the community is experiencing this issue and whether they can pinpoint something that is not on the general Autodesk forums or best practice websites.

My company has logged tickets before but to no avail. If this is happening with dozens of large scale firms, I feel there would be more talk about it on the forums, so it is leading me to believe it is an internal issue.
