Missing Generic Walls in Architecture Template???

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I have just installed Revit 2019 on student licence, and can't find any of the generic walls I have seen people use in their tutorials.

When I open projects that have been modeled in Revit 2017 all the generic walls are there, though if I open a brand new architectural template, the majority off walls including all of the generic basic walls are not there

I have pretty much searched the internet for an explanation on this, but I can't find a single bit of help, so here I am.

Hope you can help.

Andy.

Start a New Project with the Default.rte and see if that one contains the predefined Wall Types you are expecting to see.

...Browse to: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 20XX\Templates\[US Imperial or Metric]\Default.rte

You don't have these?  Anyways, you can always add a new wall type and specify only one structural component layer layer with whatever thickness you choose.  It is basically how Generic wall types are.

Hi,

To see generic walls and other wall types, you need to change your default template.

When you open revit, you will see recent file screen. Here in the project area click on new

1.png

You will see a window asking for default template. Select on Browse

 2_1.png

It will open choose template window. Here go to up folder

2.png

Select US imperial for imperial units. You can use any other folder as per your choice of metric or imperial units and as per your country.

I had Uk file opened and it was in metric units. I changed it to US imperial.

From many template files, select on default.rte for default template.

Here you will be back to new project folder and click ok.

You will be able to see all the generic walls listed in the revit family.

Hope it works!

In my case i was automatically using UK template, instead go into generic folder and use the Default_M_Eng template (or try any of the other ones).

This solved the problem for me. dont forget to UN and choose metric or whatever

I'm new to Revit and have the same problem where the Architecture Template (provided by the school) doesn't have the Basic Wall: Generic - 12". I haven't learn how to create new wall type or families, and I tried to install the downloadable content which didn't work either.

One way I discovered is to open a new project with the system-default template. Under the Project Browser of the project using System-default template, go to Families > Walls > Basic Wall > select the Generic - 12" and right-click select Copy to Clipboard. Then, set the view to Tile Views (or else the next step won't work). Click on the project view you want to paste the Generic -12" to. Then, go again to the Project Browser, Families, Walls, Basic Wall, and paste (Paste command in the Clipboard panel in the Modify ribbon).

Hi,

I had the same problem and I found that the file loaded when I choose Architectural Template wasn't the appropriate.

1. Go to Revit options under File menu.

Revit1.jpg

2. Once there click on File Locations.

Revit2.jpg

3. Check the path assigned to the Architectural Template. (In my case I changed it to the Canadian version)

Revit3.jpg

4. Click on the three dots at the end of the path and a file browser will open.

Revit4.jpg

5. Navigate to the US Imperial folder on the Templates directory, and select the default.rte file

Revit5.jpg

Hope this help you.

Greetings,

I followed these steps but revit didn't solve it, I have the version 2020. I'd like to know if someone else knows another way to solve this problem.
