Mirror entire project

End of DD, right when we about to go to CD production, owner wants to mirror the whole project left to right in regard to main front view.

It has been fully developed, dimensioned, placed on sheets, etc...

What best should we do without making lots of error ? The project is large, 12000sf on 3 levels with complicated roofs and interior layout.

We thinking grouping exterior skins, interior core, etc.  levels and mirror one by one, like divide to conquer...

Anyone has this situation before ? and can you share your success story/approach ?

Mirror the PDF file only. (Just kidding)

1. Check what is unflipable in your projects. You'll need to fix them again, or at least flip theyself again after mirror a big area of objects.

Solution1:

Copy this project, clean everything, and then reference old project into it.

Merge it and explode the group.

Solution2:

Mirror the objects by connection, not by types.

You can't mirror the wall first and then mirror doors.

Do it together.

(Or group-> mirror-> ungroup is well, too. Group has no relationship to other objects.)

--- ---

But I guess you'll still missing most of the tags in 2D views and sheets.

The "official" solution to this problem would be using the "Mirror project" command under "Manage" --> "Location".

I would say this is your best chance, however definitely not an ideal solution. Expect errors.

Keep in mind that mirroring will likely also mess with your views and 2D (detail) elements.

Still needs to check unflippable objects

The method you choose for mirroring a project may vary, the most efficient and manageable method I prefer is to use multiple models (one per discipline) and worksets which makes so many workflows more managable on any model including mirroring. However, some users find this approach too complex for smaller projects.

  1. An alternative is to use the "Mirror Entire Model" tool under Positioning, which works best in the early stages of the project. At later stages it could get cumbersome and Revit may refuse to mirror the model
  2. Another approach is to group components and mirror them (which seems to be your current method - works but can be quite tedious).
  3. Another approach is to split the project into linked models  (even at a later stage), mirror them, and then bind the linkswith the help of groups or worksets which can ease up the workflow. For this approach, you may find the following discussion helpful: Mirror links and be able to export to IFC / Use Path of Travel - Autodesk Community

irrespective which one you may choose, the below are points which apply to all methods mentioned above and which may be something for you to consider throughout the mirroring process:

  • Level Datums do not need to  and/or should not be mirrored. Mirroring them could result in an undesirable reversed orientation of any elements based on these levels.
  • Mirroring the host is sufficient to mirror the hosted elements within it. For example, mirroring a wall will automatically mirror all the inserts — doors, windows, and openings — along with the wall.
  • Regarding doors, you should expect that a left-hand or left-hand reversed door handle will be flipped, becoming right-hand or right-hand reversed. While this might not be significant for standard doors, it can/may be critical for fire exits and evacuation doors along the path of travel. Therefore, these elements may require special attention after mirroring the project.
  • Mirroring certain structural components, particularly framing, will affect their analytical model. If structural analysis is part of your workflow, you need to account for this and make post-edit adjustments.
  • MEP systems and connections require careful handling. Mirroring a fixture will also mirror its hot and cold connections (e.g., the conventional hot - cold (L/R), and cold - hot).
  • Elements with interdependencies (e.g., across levels or multiple hosts) may cause issues similar to those encountered when copying them — an issue you may already be familiar with from a previous discussion.
