Hello, I have to update surgical boom arms from CAD and Solid works into Revit for work. Nothing to detailed, just so architects can use the families to space plan their layout in Revit. I was wondering how to approach modeling of these pieces of equipment. If I should do a bunch of parameters for the different lengths, or yes/no options with families. Thanks!
I don't think you need any parameters. You just need to add some linework or geometry in the family that represents the radius of the fully extended arm for the Architect to be able to determine clearances and check interferences.
...I might have misunderstood. Are you tasked with updating existing Revit families -- or building Revit families?
I am not sure yet, but I believe at worst case scenario I would be building families,
in a such like yours I'd proceed as follows:
if you want to more infos on these problems, I recommend you to have a look at BIM store Bible:

Hello, I do not know if they are doing this, but I know a great company that is engaged in the maintenance and repair of medical equipment. The clinic where my sister works cooperates with them. And this is one of the best clinics in our city. In addition, they are engaged in the creation of medical equipment testing maintenance guide, so I'm almost sure that they will be useful to you even if they can't make the equipment you need. I generally admire doctors. The job of saving lives is very cool!
