Material: Volume Missing From Wall Tag Label Category Parameters

I'm trying to create a tag for the weight of precast concrete panels in a wall assembly. I've used a material take-off schedule and created a calculated value using the Material: Volume Category Parameter in the project to find the total weight in the schedule. But when I try to create a tag so I can show those weights in elevation, Material: Volume is missing in the tag family.

hi, are you using share parameter?

I don't understand the workflow. A Calculated Parameter in a Schedule is only available to the Schedule. There's no correlation between a Calculated Parameter and a Project Parameter or Shared Parameter.

...A Material Tag does have a Volume Parameter that you can use in the Label. Is this what you are looking for?

No, I was using the default Material: Volume Parameter.

I found a work around. I used a wall schedule instead of a material take-off then created shared parameters for both precast thickness and unit weight and set them both to type. I had to manually fill those out for each type then I was able to create a calculated parameter that multiplied those 2 plus the default area parameter. I was then able to create a tag for the Total Panel Weight

I wasn't necessarily looking for a shared parameter. Just a way to tag the result of my Calculated Parameter.

You are manually entering the Calculated Parameter Value in another Wall Parameter Field?  Walls have a Volume Parameter.  You can't use that?

No, unfortunately. The wall is an assembly, with interior furring. I just need the precast volume.

I would suggest creating Parts from the Walls and using Parts Schedule for this.

Wouldn't I run into the same issue when creating the wall tag as I did when using the material take-off?

You wouldn't use a Wall Tag. You would use a Parts Tag.  And, you wouldn't need to create a Project Parameter, or manually enter a value into that Project Parameter.   The Part Volume would be an available Parameter Field in the Schedule which you could use in a Calculated Parameter Field's Formula.  Although, I'm not even sure you would the CP at this point, because I'm not totally clear it's purpose in the first place.

The idea is to be able to create a tag that shows the total weight of each precast panel in an elevation and 3D views without manually typing each one in. Since total weight is not a parameter I would need the CP.

So, basically, you need to create a Shared Parameter for the Tag to use, and a Project Parameter (which uses the same Shared Parameter) for the Walls (or Parts) to use, and then manually enter the Calculated Parameter value from the Schedule into this Shared Parameter/Project Parameter field.
