Hello, I am new to Revit. I am trying to calculate the area of render/plastering over the walls and columns excluding the intersections.
For this I put structural columns inside of the architectural columns (as it was advised in one of the posts). I noticed that the area of render is not correct.
It probably includes the area under the column,
1) On the screenshot 1.
Inside structural column 225x225 - material cast concrete.
Outside architectural column 250x250 - material render, height 1m.
The area of render should be 4x0.25x1 = 1m2, but it is 1.125m2.
2) On the screenshot 2
IF I join the wall 100m thick material concrete block rendered both sides. The area of the column render becomes even bigger than it was - 1.147m2. I tried to join the will to column in different combinations, but it will not help.
Please kindly advise how it calculates the area of the material, and perhaps there is a better way to calculate the area of the plastering on the walls and structure. I know that I could use the painting tool but it will not account for thickness and volume and I am going to use the paint tool for actual painting area calculation.

Many Thanks!
I did not realize that it will include tops and bottoms when there is another object inside.
In fact Now I understand that it is because the arch column is not joined to the structural one.
Once it is joined Revit calculates both internal and external surfaces, so if it is divided by 2 it is more or less accurate.
The painting works well, thanks for advising, but it gives no thickness, so I will have to do the both.
Is there a way to join all walls to columns the same time? And how to understand if the objects are joined or not?
Actually it will not calculate the wall core material correctly when the wall is aligned by the edge of the column.
