Material Tags do not recognize painted surfaces in all views

Is it me or is this just more Revit logic?

If I use split face and paint materials on a surface in Elevation I can use Material Tags in an Elevation and the tags report the materials correctly, but if I tag the exact same areas in a Section the Material Tags all report the material that is defined in the entity type and ignore the painted surface.

I'm using a wall in this example but it seems to hold true regardless of entity or surface type. (surfaces split and painted from plan, for example, will tag correctly in plan but not it any other view, etc, etc)

Cross-Section View of the Wall with the Painted Surface?  It's not you.  Could be attributed to logic.  Dunno.

Paint doesn't change the material in depth.  See below.

If you want to tag the different materials in section like you show, then Create Parts and override Parts materials.
