Material Library Issue???

Greetings everyone. I've got a problem that seems to be happening now with Revit 2021. Not sure when it started or what I may have done to cause it, but it seems to be connected to my material library in some way.

When opening the Materials manager, most material texture icons will not load, or take a very long time to do so, and my computer's CPU goes into overdrive for some reason. Not sure if this is a missing paths situation, or if it's a missing library materials- though I do seem to have all the RVT 2021 material libraries and textures in my C drive in the proper location.

Any suggestions as to what I might want to do to remedy this ugly condition???

Have you installed the latest update?

21.1.0.108

I also followed the instructions to Uninstall and Reinstall the 2021 material libraries...and I've also repaired my Revit installation. When I bring up the Materials browser, most of my material icons show as grey squares with the yellow alert in the corner...and then my computer fans kick in as my CPU/GPUs are taxed...then slowly my icon textures blink into view...but once was once instantaneous, now is measured in many tens of seconds.

Those Autodesk Material Libraries can be Repaired through the Control Panel.  FWIW.

Those triangular symbols indicate Legacy Assets.

Funny, I just opened my 2021 Material and saw the exact same thing your screenshot is showing...but I see the swatches are slowly populating.  This has happened to me before.  It's also been posted about before.  Are any of your swatches showing a Material?

Yes, eventually all the swatches will show images, but it takes a LONG time and my CPU/GPU are really cranking away on calculations because my water-cooling fans kick in at maximum speed. Something's definitely not right here...

Even after those top icons are found and shown, if I scroll down in the browser to other materails, they all appear as grey squares and then things grind away as the images slowly pop into place...

 Same here.

I just opened a Support Case on this.  I'll post back what they tell me.  Probably be a couple of days.

I'm presently in contact with Autodesk about this. You won't believe what they initially told me.  It totally floored me. Check out this Article they sent me -- and the STATUS!  "The software is behaving as designed"WTF!

NOTE: 1 minute and 37 seconds into the screencast and the thumbnails are STILL POPULATING!

OP here, hoping that there's a better solution than "working as designed"...because if this is how it's supposed to work, then someone's not developing software for user productivity and have prioritized "user frustration" instead!

If there are any sort of files from my machine that your team want, please let me know and I'll be happy to send over system specs or any files that might help.

Please update us as soon as progress is made on this issue, it's humiliating to teach Revit on a very high end machine and have it come to a grinding halt when bringing up the Material browser/editor.

barthbradley, thank you for your efforts on bringing this matter up with support! I hope they recognize it as a real issue, since there are at least three of us now who are noticing it, and find a resolution quickly.

Bump....Has any Autodesk developer looked into this matter and come up with a resolution yet, or are we on our own???

This is what was told to me by Autodesk Support on 9/29/20 via email: "expect an update after the 10/13".
