Material Editor: Duplicating Custom Parameter

I created a few custom parameter for scheduling purpose. I have been noticing that my custom parameter are getting duplicated. I am not sure why it's doing this. I attached a screenshot of the Material Parameter window and Parameter properties

That's seriously weird.

I have been suffering from the same issue which has been crippling my material schedules to the point that I cannot open the schedules anymore.

I have been able to recreate the issue with the following workflow:

  1. Create a custom Material Project Parameter;
  2. Enter a value to the Parameter for a Material;
  3. Assign that Material to a Loadable Family (eg Casework);
  4. Select and click "Edit Family" to open the Family Editor (this should open with the Material that was assigned);
  5. Make any change to the Family (does not have to be related to the Material);
  6. Load back into project and overwrite when prompted.

You should notice that the Project Parameter has been duplicated.

I do not know how to prevent Revit from doing this, however, I have created a Dynamo Script to Delete all Redundant Duplicate Parameters.

Hope this helps, but would also love to know how to prevent this from happening.

Thanks for your post! I had the same problem, but hadn't narrowed down the action resulting in the duplicates.

I had made my parameters just with the Add... button in the the Project Parameters dialog box.  As a test, I remade my Custom Parameters (with slightly different names so I could track them) as Shared Parameters and added them into the project through the Project Parameters dialog box (which is a multi-step process).  Then I reloaded a family several times.

The Project Parameters duplicated themselves, the Shared Parameters did not.

Maybe something about referencing back to the Shared Parameter file helps Revit realize that it's the same parameter?

I'm running into the same issue.  I will definitely be switching to shared parameters for the single purpose of stabilizing this annoying behavior.
