Managing materials in nested families

I have a door family within the door 2 door handles (nested families).

It is 1 door handle with multiple colors. So 1 handle family with 3 types (White, Black, Steel)

In each type of my door handle I choose a specific material. So a white color material on my door handle white and so on ...

I want in my project I can select my door and choose which handle I want for each door. So I create in my door family a door type parameter (shared parameter). And use it also in my project.

It is possible to switch in my project the door handles, but the color doesnt change ..

If I look in my door family and change the different types of handles, I can see the different colors. It just took my last change in my family before I load it in my project.

What is my mistake? I don t want to choose the material in my project, I want it is already done in the nested families.

Seems like the handle isn't parametrized. When you change the handle material type, only the inside switch the material.
