why are you nesting a Plumbing Fixture into another Plumb Fixture?

i was trying to recenter it without messing up all the reference lines and stuff
Hi,
This class from Marcello Sgambelluri is a great fun way to learn about easy ways of making things rotate...
Whether or not you decide to make this family rotate ![]()
Hope that’s of interest!
Mark
yeah that whole nesting family thing was just to try and change the default center of rotation because when i drew the fitting i did not draw it in the center. But basically i have attached the whole model below and what i wanted is for that 88degree fitting to be able to rotate 360 degrees while being controlled by a parameter and still remaining connected to the U gully (The u shaped bend)
Hope this clears up some of the confusion

It doesn't really.
Do me a favor; select the "88degreefitting" family in the Project and use Spacebar Rotate on it. Is the component rotating correctly? I think not. Is this what you are trying to correct? The way it rotates?
-Go to family
-window-select everything
-go to Filters and uncheck everything except Reference Planes
-Under Ref. Planes Properties set "Is Reference" Value to "Not a Reference" for all
-Select the Horizontal and Vertical Ref. Planes intersecting the center point of the fitting, and change their "Is Reference" value to "Strong Reference" and then check "Defines Origin".
-Reload Family into Project
-Re-align fitting
-Test Spacebar Rotate
One more thing I would suggest -- Pin the two "Origin" Ref. Planes and make sure no others are Pinned.
Cheers.
One more thing now that the object rotates properly i want to make it so i can control the rotation with a parameter instead of pushing space bar so i can set it to angles other than ones that are 90 degrees. so to do this i followed this guide (https://aectechtalk.wordpress.com/2010/10/04/keys-to-rotating-items-inside-revit-families/) and got it to work for the majority but when i set it to certain angles like 180 for example it breaks the model. Do you know why this is happening or if there are any other way's to control the rotation so it can be set to a specific angle?
Put a Flip Arrow in Plan View of the Family. If you need to rotate it past 180 degrees in the Project, just Flip the Component.
Got it working. I didn't have 2020 revit installed so i couldn't open the model you sent until today but everything's working all good now. Thanks For the help ![]()
