I'm trying to figure out how to keep reference plane locks for an extrusion that's part of an arrayed group. I've array some rectangle extrusions and locked the extrusion lines to the RP's shown below. But the moment I make a grouped array out of the extrusion, those RP associations are lost. How do I get around this? I've attached an RVT2024 sample file.
Arrays are more reliable when defined as a nested family of the base array. Then the number of elements in the array can be controlled from the parent family. Define the distance from one member to the second and the qty of elements but leave it set to just two. Then map the distance and qty to parameters in a host family.

As @SteveKStafford said it is better to nest the modeled element you want to array as a separate family.
However if it is just a simple rectangular extrusion you can control the size better by having the dimension parameters inside the sketch. Then the ref plane outside the sketch just controls the spacing. Here I also have it set to Width.
