Louvers

Revit 2016 out of box louvers has 16"x24 and 24"x24". I need an 6ft x 6ft louver so I made a duplicate (of the 24"x24") and changed the width to 6ft and height to 6ft and the resulting louver is 6ft wide but the height did not update and still is 24". The 24"x24" louver does not have the height filled out? I tried to look at the family, but didnt see anything to change there to get the desired result. I'm beginner revit user so it is probably something easy. I'm going to try attaching the family.

Thanks,

Jeff

Probably needs a Reference Plane and a dimension with an associated parameter to control the height.

Since it "flexes" properly in the width, deconstruct the family and see how it is set up, and apply same logic to height.

Not sure how to deconstruct a family, but I will google it. Thanks for the quick reply!

"Deconstruct"--just means "figure out" how the width is working correctly in the family. I'd bet there are reference planes, with dimensions associated to a parameter called "width".

So--see how it is built--and then copy that method for the height.

The trick is going to be getting the louver blades to adjust to changes in height. It gets pretty advanced--using arrays and formulas.

You might alos take a look at a ladder family, as they are built using the same methods.

Sorry--I don't have Revit 2016, or I'd open the family and take a look.

I autually gave up on the out of box louver and downloaded a family from revit city that worked well for do different size louvers. Thanks for the family I will download it and take a look at it. I need to do some tutorials on building families.

Thanks,

Jeff

I have the louver placement issue you alluded to.  I can place any of the already existing louvers with no issue. But I can't figure out how to customize the louver size and make the fins stay in place.   I also can't share the model because it is a secure project. I have attached a screen shot.

Use a curtain wall with horizontal mullions with a rotation for the louver blades.  It can be any shape and size.

Can you not share just the louver family? We don't need the project file.

This is my louver family. The louver panel itself is nested so it is easier to make versions with more than one louver side-by-side or stacked.

My Mistake! Your louver works exactly as it should. I did download it, but I confuse the family names and inserted the wrong louver into my wall Thank you!
