Good afternoon I am beginning to learn REVIT 2025 for the first time but I am having a problem with Revit when trying to create a roof by extrusion. I can successfully create the general shape of the roof, but then the video I follow has me use the outline of the house floor plan to cut the edges of the roof to match the house walls - to do this the video adds a vertical opening to cut the roof using the model lines then selecting the roof lines and adding a rectangle around the roof so that the roof excess is cut off. However when I try to press 'OK" I receive the error:
"When creating am opening, you cannot sketch loops within other loops. The highlighted loop(s) are contained within another loop."
However I did not add anything that the instructor hadn't and am having trouble finding the loop in question. Does anyone have experience with this problem?
Of course, for some reason it wouldn't let me attach my original post bc I was a guest. This is the general roof shape:
I then try to use this outline to perform the cut/trim:
After pressing the green checkmark I receive the "loops within loops error."
This is what I want the roof to look like:
I thought you said you did the roof via Roof by Extrusion method. That is not edit sketch mode of a roof that was done via Roof by Extrusion. If it is, no wonder Revit is complaining.
That said, you can do a Roof by Footprint using that exact same sketch boundary (loop with loop). The resulting roof would be a rectangle with a "loopy" hole in it. However, what you are showing that you want as the roof is simply accomplished with sketching just the interior looped boundary line and omitting the outer rectangular boundary line.
Okay, I get it. That sketch boundary you are showing in your screenshot is an In-Place Modeled Void Extrusion; right? You are going to cut the Roof with it; right? If so, it should work. I see nothing wrong with it.
...tell you what, @bwyang2003 - post a link to that tutorial you are following. That'll help me to help you.
