I've been using Revit for over 20 years, (not on a super regular basis), but i just can't grasp how to make views display as I would like. View Range is a total ???? to me no matter how much I try to understand it.
I'm trying to set up a view for my ceiling joist that shows the joist, above plate line, the walls below, with all the doors and windows. My walls are set to have a solid fill 80% dark grey.
My view, when I set the cut plane to show my joists, does not show the doors and windows below and the solid fill hatch only shows below the cut plane so some walls are filled and other taller walls aren't. What needs to happen to show items that are above and/or below the cut plane? And I can make a dozen changes on the view range settings and nothing changes. Throw me a rope,......

In RCP, the Cut Plane is coincident to the bottom clip plane.

Thanks Bart. I'm reading it. It seems easy to understand. But I guess I'm not understanding.
In the attachment, the red circle shows an area that has a beam system, (2x10 ceiling joists @ 24" O.C.) that are sitting on top of the level 1 plate line. So why, when I set the top view range at 1' 0" offset from the bottom of level 1 top plate, are the joists not showing ? I would also prefer the door openings show in this view as I will likely be turning off the panel and swing.

Also, Create Parts from Beams and those Parts will be picked up in RCP View.
Thanks Bart. This was very helpful and I appreciate all of your efforts. With this response and an hour or 2 of changing view range values and display settings I'm getting closer to getting the display I want. I ended up using a reflected ceiling plan and I will never in a million years be able to remember all of the settings I changed so I need to save this as a view template and load it into my project template.
I'm still a view range goof ball. It's definitely not intuitive.
