Locking Revit Views

Okay, is there any way I can "lock" views so that any new items added to the model don't show in that view?

For instance let's say that I've set out all the tables in all the classrooms in a school and created lots of layout drawings etc, job done.

I'm then asked by the contractor to supply some chairs in the rooms so I add them in.

I don't want the chairs to show up in all the plan views, sections and elevations I've previously created and more importantly I don't want to have to trawl through all my previous work hiding them.

Tables and chairs are just an example, this situation can apply to all sorts of items..

Any ideas?

Please?

Is there any way of

You can create a rule based filter. A rule may be a type mark. Assign that filter to the view templates.

You can place the chairs into a Design Option, and only make one new view that displays this Design Option.

In this case, Worksets may also be an option--(although best practice usually points to Filters for visibility methods.)

So--there is no "one correct way" to do it. These methods can all work.

-Design Options

-Worksets

-Filters

Apply to View templates to globally control visibility of the "new chairs" in all the views/sheets.

Hi @mark

Since you don't want the chairs to show up in all the plan views you could create a view filter that identifies elements based on categories and parameter values.

As suggested by @cbcarch Design Options and Worksets also work.  Creating a rule-based filter selection you can achieve similar results as @Ilic.Andrej mentions. Also, see Manage Selection-Based Filters

Here are some additional resources on the same:

Hope that helps!

I am also inclined to add "Phases" into the list of possible suggestions.

If you are trying to document / model a linear sequence of events- ie at this stage there are 20 chairs in the room, next week (due to Contractor instruction) there are 43 Chairs in the room- seems like Phases may be appropriate?

Kind regards,
Ian
