locked properties

When I select an element and choose "Edit type" to see the properties, they are all greyed out so I cannot make a duplicate or edit them.

Is there a way to make them available to edit?

Which "element" did you select exactly, and is it on a locked layer (or is layer 0 locked)?

Same for anything in the model. Here i selected a parapet detail which you can see the properties greyed out. Same if i take it through to "Edit"

I think you want to ask this in the Revit forum but I don't think you can modify a linked file without opening it.

there are several reasons properties will be grayed out.

  • if there is a View template controlling it
  • if its in a Design option
  • If it is in a Linked model
  • and several others.....

as @dbroad  mentioned, it looks like this may be in a link. if it is in a link you can only get information from it, not edit it. if you need to edit it, you need to open the linked file.

This element is part of a linked revit file.

You should open the linked file separately and edit it.

Because it's an IFC.
