Lock move tool to only horizontal OR vertical, not both?

Hello,

When moving objects you obviously can constrain the move tool to snap to horizontal AND vertical axes. Can you not constrain it to just one? Whenever your mouse passes over the 45 degree line it switches which axis it snaps to. This happens a lot when you're moving something a short distance but need to align it with a point farther away.

A workaround I've found is to move the object farther away than the distance from the reference object as shown at the end of the attached video, but this is still a workaround and not ideal :enttäuschtes_Gesicht:

Align it with the object farther away first, then Move.

Also works, but I'd still consider this a workaround since it's a two step process.

Could you go more in depth on how to use this? The autodesk article is pretty vague and I can't see any change in the snapping behavior after hitting SR. Thanks!

The one-step theory that you want, even if it can be done, is actually a two or more step process:

- step 1: do something to somehow ignore the nearer witness

- step 2: move

You're right it's two steps. I guess I mean one command. Take autocad for example. Yes there are two steps but theyre contained within the one move command. You hover over the point on the reference object and it will create a tracking/construction line for you to snap to. Sketchup, Rhino, Blender have their own versions of this as well.
