Hello,
I am new enough to working with Revit so I hope I am not missing something obvious, but I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere online.
We are working with a large Revit project of a site that has many other Revit models of buildings linked into it.
Two of these buildings have been copied to multiple locations within the project.
We intend to link the master Revit file to 3ds Max for rendering with V-Ray.
So far the linking process is straight forward and there are no problems with bringing the whole scene into Max.
The issue we are having is that for the buildings where there are multiple copies of the same linked Revit model, only the first instance is imported across to Max.
Now I know we could create instances of the buildings in Max and manually move them into place, but that would defeat the purpose of the Revit-to-Max linking workflow, as we would be getting several updated versions of the Revit project from our clients as we work on the rendering side of things.
So I would like to know if there is some setting or process we are missing to ensure that everything that is visible in the selected Revit view to link is also imported into the 3ds Max Scene?
Thanks for the help!
Elaina
What is the extension you use for export? FBX?

I'm not really exporting at all, just using the "Import - Link Revit" tool in 3Dsmax 2020 to directly import the required RVT file.
I believe it behaves mostly the same as a FBX import though?
I assume that Max has no concept of shared coordinates and named locations to reconcile the model against. A model only has one current named location and that's the one you'll get when you link to Max. The notion of reusing a model design for multiple locations is something very specific to Revit. I believe you'll need to Save As to create individual models to link to Max as unique.

We have urban planning and estate projects where there are typically 3 to 5 units each duplicated several times.
When taking this over to Max for rendering, placing over 100 links again manually defeats the point of going through this exercise in Revit and having the Revit>live link>Max workflow.
Surely there needs to be a solution for multiple copies of the same link in a Revit file?
