Linking Revit 2018 file in 3dsMax 2020

I'm experimenting with linking a 2018 Revit file in 3dsMax 2020. Before I have any options dialogue 3dsMax starts upgrading the model which would be disastrous.

I've read that if the proper Revit 2018 interoperability functions are downloaded it should be able to use the 2018 without updating the file. I've run the installer and I'm not getting any options to install one. I've gone to the Revit interoperability website and tried to find something but haven't had any success there. Anyone know what I need to do? Documentation on this seems very week.

Thanks

I think this page buried in Autodesk's snakepit of knowledge might help?

Wait what is building design suite?

I just have Revit and 3dsmax installations so this Building Design specific solution isn't going to work I'm afraid.

A Building Design Suite is a package of software which includes Revit and Max Design. It is the precursor to the Industry Collections they are offering now. Both are sold as a product (sku) so they are licensed differently than individual software. However the advice in the article is still valid. You'll need to run the installer again to make sure you include the compatibility components during installation or "repair/update".

Thanks, the interoperability options dialogue are not available in any
package not just the business suite but alas i've solved the problem by
installing 3Ds max 2018 (again no option to select or deselect revit
interoperability) and it does get installed automatically. Now when I open
a 2018 revit linked file in 3dsmax 2020 it does not attempt to upgrade the
model and works with it fine.

Glad you're back on track. It won't shock me that something Autodesk wrote is not consistent with your observation. They took a screenshot for the article so it must be true for some version? A hassle to reinstall, but glad it worked.
