Linking new models into other projects best practices

We are going to be doing multiple tenant improvement projects in an office building and we are trying to figure out the best way to setup these projects. Each project will be a portion of one level and we would like to start these projects from our project template. The tenant improvement (TI) projects will include things like adding interior walls, furniture layouts, electrical plans etc.  So what is the best way to go about orienting the new project into the existing model project? Then also what is the best way to link in the existing model project into the tenant improvement project so it locates itself correctly? My tendency would be to link in the TI project to the main and then manually move it up/down left/right until it was in the right spot but what about the project base point and survey point? Is there any need to align those to the main project?

I understand that starting these new TI projects from the main model would be easier from a positioning perspective but the problem with that is that we would prefer to use the template if possible because it already has the sheets, schedules, legends etc. that we want.

So, from a positioning perspective, what is the best way to go about this?

Thanks in advance,

I would link the Existing building model in each TI models project Center to Center, Acquired Coordinates from the link, Copy Monitor Grids and Levels, then model based on the copied Grids and Levels and the link as reference.

If your project are phased, create a same set of Phases in the Existing model and TI model, then map the phases correctly in each TI model via the link's Type properties.

If you want a federated model showing all the TI work, link (overlay) the TI models back in the Existing model using Shared Coordinates.

Wow this is brilliant. The only thing that didn't work for me was linking the main model to the new TI model via center to center... Because when linked that TI model back into the main when it only had a table in it moved it to the wrong location. It must use the center of model geometry for the center to center method. When I did the linking by using the internal coordinate system everything worked smoothly with the linking. And the ability to copy and monitor levels from the main project is... mind blowing. Thanks!
