Linked models - graphics of linked structural model

Hi there,

I am having a lot of trouble to get my architectural general arrangement plans to display as I want them.

Not wanting too much, just the structural elements to override my architectural walls. For instance, I want the columns to override the walls and display as per the attachment.

Someone suggested to use the view range to sort this. If I had the view range of the structural model set higher than the architectural model and select the view range in VG to linked view, it shows as the attached. BUT, the issue with this is that the structural model view range is clearly set by the engineer and that unfortunately is 500mm above FFL.

Can anyone please suggest a way to show this correctly. I have tried underlay, but in fact what I need is overlay !

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Current view looks like the attached.

Halftone does nothing more than make the structural model lighter.

Additional: The same behavior occurs on sections - see attached. I need the structural to override walls here.

You can set the visibility of linked models through the View Template......possibly set to Host Model?

There are 2 possible solutions:

1. Copy-monitor the columns and join the walls to these columns. (Probably the fastest solution).

2. Draw the interior walls in a way they don't go through the columns. The current way they're drawn will result in wrong quantity/material take-offs.

Rina - that is what I have been trying to do.

Kintaurus - thanks for the suggestions, however:

1) Solution would work but there are probably a hundred columns on each level (10 levels) and also concrete shear walls running alongside external walls. I am worried about inflating the model size greatly as well as time to do this

2) I can't avoid walls going through the columns. For example, the columns and shear walls cut the external walls. To avoid them I would need a separate wall type for the width of the column which would be impossible to model

I managed to only solve this by setting my architectural link model by linked view (1200mm AFFL) and the structural to host view (1250mm AFFL)
