Linked model was rotated mid-project

Hello Forum, this is the first time I have to resort to asking for help and I am humbled by your responses.. so bear with me.  We work with a linked architect's model. We link in there project origin to origin and start working based on where their building is located.  we copy monitor their grids and drop in our face based families where they belong, (associating to the linked in architecture model), and then the architect links our model into his, and its all magically delicious.

Recently, we noticed the architect's model was rotated, so when we refreshed the link, all hell broke loose as all the dimensions, devices, everything, was going to be removed because there no longer appeared to be walls and floors in the same location.  It looks like the architect either physically rotated their model, or rotated True north.

1) I opened an archived copy of our Revit project, renamed the latest Architect's model and inserted it in to find that in comes in at a different location.. but the survey point and is in the same spot. looks like the building was rotated 90degrees.  *See image below. The second image is from within the Architect's lasted Revit file.  Note: BOTH images are set to TRUE NORTH, survey points are same. (Our project Norths vary because we need to show building in different orientation from arch. on our drawing set, so all our views are set to project north.)

Our BIM model with view set to TRUE NORTH.JPG

Arch BIM model with view set to TRUE NORTH.JPG

The first image indicates our devices associated to an old arch. Revit file in the bottom right.  The building on the top left side is the updated arch. Revit file which is coming in at a new location.

It would seem like this is a simple fix of rotating our True North 90 degrees so it aligns to the revised location,
BUT when I do so, it rotates all links respectively too.  So when I delete the revised arch. background, save, and load it in, it still keeps coming in at 90 degrees to my model's new position.  What step am I missing?

Since a lot of my devices are face based, I would really need to do something so that the new arch. model REPLACES the old one, that way I don't loose all my devices and dimension. For that very reason, I don't want to just Delete  the old arch. model.

Any and all advice appreciated.

You can simply rotate the link to match your model again, then Acquire coordinates to prevent it from happening in the future.

Hmm Still getting same results:

1- rotated the new link 90 degrees around survey point

1- rotated 90 degrees around survey point.JPG

2 - new link overlays exactly over old link

2 - new link overays extactly over long link.JPG

3- acquired coordinates from new link

3- acquired coordinates from new link _Successful.JPG

4-deleted new link, saved the project, closed out of it

4-deleted new link_saved_closed_ in the folder, I renamed the new link to the same name as old link so it automatically reloads it in place of the old link.JPG

5- open Revit, "reload from" the old link with the new link location

5-reload old link with the new link which i renamed to have the same name for consistancy.JPG

6- get all the same warnings

6-warnings.JPG

7- a lot of devices and dimensions and the new model is inserted in wrong position. *note, screenshot is still in True North setting building around the survey point is all relevant in all my screenshots.

7-devices are deleted and new model is inserted in wrong position.JPG

What is with old link new link complication?  You only need one link.  Open the file where you see the link is misplaced, rotate and move it back in place using your model's grids as the guides, acquire coordinates and that's the end of it.

I think there is a heck of a lot happening here -- all related to the Survey Point being mismanaged.  I suspect it got moved, resulting in the projects are no longer being aligned.  May I ask, do you have multiple sites listed under Location Site tab?

I think i got it to work... after I acquired the coordinates, I Published the coordinates to the Old Link and saved the file.
I was hesitant to do this before because these files are architect's files and we typically try not to change anything with them.
but now i realize that since all my devices were associated to the old link's location, I'd HAVE to publish the new link location to the old link so that my device associates would move along to the new link location.  After opening this file up, i reloaded the old link to the new link, and it all seems to have finally linked up.

Thanks again.

This is why I asked if you had multiple sites listed. Probably, could have fixed by simply changing "current" location.  Whatever.

...here, you may find the information at this link quite helpful.
