Linked model graphics

Hi,

I am looking for some advice on controlling the graphics of a linked structural model in Revit.

I have a structural model linked into my architectural model, the only element of the linked model that I want to show on my drawing is the structural column. I want the column to appear a light grey and to override the walls in my architectural model.

Currently I have attempted to control the graphic of the column by customising the display settings and adjusting the "structural column" model category via the Revit Links tab under the visibility graphics. I have changed the cut pattern here to what I want and also the thickness of the cut lines. The pattern appears correctly but the thickness of the line was not overridden but I then changed this globally in the main model through the object styles. They only issue that I have now is that the cut pattern shows my model running through it.

In effect I want this pattern to be non transparent so that it hides the wall below. See the attached images.

I could of course break the wall so that it is modelled correctly and not runnng through the column but I have multiple floors that I would need to update in order for this to work

Any help on this issue would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Hello, PC.

Take a look on your options selected as the following:

1. On the Revit links ribbon, the Halftone and Underlay option must be disabled;

1.PNG

2. Inside the Display Settings button, the option Custom must be selected;

2.PNG

3. Inside the Model Category ribbon, find your columm category and make sure that the Projection/Surface is as shown above:

4. Result:

Hi Felipe,

Thanks for your reply

I have taken all the steps that you have described and the problem still persists, see screen shots below

The hatch pattern is applied but the pattern is transparent, Is there a way that this pattern could be set as opaque?

This is not the expected behavior. If you place a structural column on your plan, does it cover the intersecting wall?

Are you sure that this is the right category of the element?
Check if it`s not the Columms category instead of Structural Columms.

Maybe you have a filter applied and because your linked model from the screenshot is taking same settings this filter might be applied to your linked model. So maybe try to change view filters in linked model from by host to none.

ToanDN,

Thanks for your reply,

Yes when I place a column withing the host file there is no problem, the issue only occurs when trying to control the graphics of the linked structural model.

Hi Felipe,

I have double checked that the category of the model is structural column, see attached image

If I open the linked model on its own is there anything that I can change there that might work?

Were the linked structural columns displaying correctly, aka masking the
intersecting walls, before you applied all the overrides?

Karol,

I have filters applied but none of them look at the structural columns or column categories. To check it I changed the filter to none for the linked model but still no joy

Koan,

I just created a new plan from scratch with no graphic overides and turned on the linked model. The result is the same as before the walls are masking the column which is not what I want

It doesn't seem like normal behavior, I have controlled the graphics in linked projects before but this time it seems different, perhaps a bug of some description or maybe the there's an issue with the file I am linking in?

well in that case I can only think about one thing and it would be a global transparency applied in display options. If not have you tired to apply different view templates to see if any of those would solve the issue/pin point to the cause?

First of all lol! I'm answering this in 2023. I faced the same issue and I found out the solution after scratching my head for 2 days.

Change the Cut line thickness under the visibility graphics of the linked structural model to 1 and then go to "Basics" tab of linked model visibility settings. Change the "Object Styles" to "Linked view" instead of the default "host view". It should work now. (make sure to assign required line weight for '1' under Additional settings.

mvenkateshJAT9R, thanks for the reply, better late than never :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht: I never got that issue resolved in the end but I did not try that method you suggested but I'll keep that knowledge for again, I'm sure it will pop up again. Building is now built and the columns and walls worked out well! :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

Thanks

Having a similar issue you both described, have tried all of the above...continues to display like what is shown in the screenshot attached. I just want to have thin lines. Refuses the override.
