Linked CAD File Location Issue

Hi All,

I'm having an issue with a CAD Topo Survey that I've linked into my Revit Project and set up with Coordinates. I had modeled a lot of the project with rough measurements on site and once we got the topo I linked in the CAD file and got the coordinates from it. My workflow was as follows:

- Link in topo CAD file via "Insert" & "Link CAD"

- Set Options to  "Manual - Centre" and set the insert level to my "Topo 0000 Level" in the project, as well as specifying the Units to the CAD files Meters (As the survey drawing is in meters not millimeters).

- Place CAD file close to building manually, and then more accurately to a building/existing structure edge/corner and orientation.

- Unclip the Survey Point in the Model

- Manage Tab, Co-Ordinates, Acquire Co-Ordinates.

- Move the Project Base Point to the linked CAD Co-Ordinate point (in the topo I received there was a Co-Ordinate point clearly shown)

- RE-Clip the Survey Point in the Model.

This workflow worked ( I might have written the order towards the end a little in the wrong order, but its pretty much it), when I used an annotate "Spot Co-Ordinate" it was correct to the linked CAD Co-Ordinate point.

As I was working on this, I wanted to unload the CAD file as to see the model clearly, however when I reloaded, the CAD file has moved way down to the bottom left, but the co-ordinates in the model itself still seem right. I need to be able to reload the CAD file to appear over the Model (where it should be) so I can work on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have seen this happen before too. i usually try not to move the CAD file. it has a tendency to want to revert to its original location. that said.... if you make a Worksets and assign the link to a Workset, you can turn the Workset off without Unloading/Reloading the link.

Thats a good suggestion, but in the meantime, how would I move the CAD file back to the correct position without messing up the Co-Ordinates? Unclip the survey point again and move manually and reclip?

you said the coordinators are still set. Move the CAD link back to where you want it :-(.

also, something else to think about and try when you have time.... in my office we work with very large site plans with our Revit building models. we make a Civil Revit file that we link the CAD Topo, Utilities, etc... files into. Then, link that Civil Revit model into our building file(s). it has tended to a lot more stable than linking in a large CAD Topo.
