Hi,

I have two rvt files. I want to load one to another by the way: Insert - Link Revit.

Revit announce: Linked file cannot be reloaded because it is loaded into another open document.

What should I do?

Thanks.

In order to insert a file as linked in another file, the file you want to insert must not be open in Revit . Close the file and then insert it.

I am having a very similar issue. We are working on a project with over 7 Revit models linked in together. All these Revit files have been created as central models. Is there a way to use this or a similar file structure to allow files to be reloaded without the need to close open models or is Revit anti multitasking?

Thank you.

What about if you still get the message, even though the link is closed, and you've restarted your machine, and you've detached and re-saved?

I ran into this issue. To resolve you have to open the file from the open dialogue in Revit so that you can detach from central then resave.

What if you never had the linked document open in any other application on your computer, but this error keeps occurring?  R20 here and Im getting this error pretty much every day on different projects.  Our company never had this issue before, and our standards for linking Revit files have not changed.  Does anyone have a long term fix?  Shutting down Revit and reopening projects all the time is not an efficient workflow.   Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same issue.  To get past it, the only workaround I have found is to completely remove the link and link it in again.  I'm linking the same file in but the error is now gone!  This is far from ideal as my view templates need to be fixed each time the issue crops up.

If the link is also a central file with workset, you can open it without Revit telling you have to unload the link. The other way I overcome the unloading if the link file is not workset file is to open separate Revit session. One session work with the file with links and the other session opening up the link file.

This might happen if someone has ownership of the file and hasn't relinquished.

This is an unconsionable workaround. Get your act together Revit!

I'm confused as to how this is the accepted solution if it is not addressing the problem (question for Autodesk - not Constantin!). I too am having the issues noted by others in the thread. I have a model that isn't even workshared yet. Worksets are set up, but I have not workshared it on the cloud, or on the internal server. The links I have linked are all downloaded on our server. No one has them open. Not one. The links were not open when they were linked into the base file. Has any solution been found to this over the last 11 years since this was initially asked?

Also, what is the other document that is allegedly open?
