Link Coordination Model with embedded Point Cloud

I have a Navisworks .nwd file that has a point cloud embedded in it. When I link this Navisworks file into Revit the point cloud does not show up but rather a bunch of empty boxes instead of the point data. Is it possible to get the point cloud to properly appear in Revit via the Coordination Model linking tool?

Has anyone had success with this workflow? I am getting the same result as below (boxes only) when testing the link coordination model with .rcp "Embedded" into the NWD. I have no issue with linking in the same .rcp file directly.

The .rcp project is approx 12Gb, when embedded into NWD this file is approx 2.5Gb. If I share the NWD I need external stakeholders to also be able to reference recap pointcloud into Revit. Preference would obviously be to share the 2.5Gb NWD dataset.

Anyone get any more information on this? Same issue is happening to me and i would like to share the point cloud files while also keeping the file sizes down.

Same thing happens in Autocad, FYI.

I got the same problem. I have a huge point cloud in .pts format, 20GB, and converting it to nwd/nwc compresses it to 600MB so it would be a really nice feature if this actually worked. But all i see is an empty box. what is strange is that the linked coordination model slows down my revit model. so clearly there is something there, I just can't see it:(

So, this is an old thread. But is there anyone out there who has an solution for this issue?

It sounds like a pathing issue, especially if you are using the desktop connector.

You may try to do the following in Navisworks:

  • Correct the paths to the RCP file and save the NWD file.
  • Open the Navisworks file where the point cloud was appended and use Publish the NWD file with the option "Embed ReCap and Texture Data.”

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-embed-point....

Also, where is the NWD file being hosted, keeping in mind that Desktop Connector does not support point cloud files?

Thank you for your reply. I'm not using the desktop connector.

I think that the missing path-theroy is a good theory. But when I open the *.nwd-file, then I'm able to see the point cloud in Navisworks Freedom.
