Line Pattern Not Working In Specific Views

I've created a line pattern to assign to the graphic override for demolition. It works fine in a view set-up at 1/8" scale for both model elements and linked model elements. In a different view set-up at 1/16", it only works for elements in the project but not for linked elements. If I change this 1/16" scale view to 1/8", the pattern shows in the project elements but not the linked elements. If I change the 1/8" scale view to 1/16" it works as expected all around. The only difference I can see is that the two views are based on different levels. Even applying the view template from the 1/8" scale view to the 1/16" scale view does not help. Also, when I use the "Demolished" line pattern, the 1/16" scale view works as expected.

In summary, it's only when using the replacement line pattern that it doesn't work for linked elements in the 1/16" scale view, even when changing the scale of the view.

I know, a bit confusing but I hope it's clear enough.

Do this same exact line style exist in the Linked file?

It is not in the linked file but it works in one of the views as expected.

weird.

try transfer project standards from host to link.

I don't know if this will help, but I vaguely remember reading something about this before, and it had something to do with different Line Weight values in the Host and the Link projects (under Manage Tab=>Additional Settings=>Line Weights). Maybe worth investigating.

I just battled this mf Revit demon. The project file the detail is used must contain the same line style, including the same name, pattern and weight.

@RobDraw: I just found what I was “vaguely” remembering!

From The Revit Clinic, January 20, 2010: In Revit, line weights are pulled from the project settings > line weights.  This holds true for linked files, which will also utilize their specific line weight settings.

@barthbradley, I'm not really sure how line weight settings have anything to with the issue at hand.

@jc8000, as mentioned before, the same line pattern is working on the linked demolition elements in a different view. I will however try your suggestion but I don't really want to have to remember add that pattern with every update.

I will try rebuilding the view(s) just to rule out that something was wrong from the get go as these views were all created as duplicates at the onset of the project. Will report back in the AM.

Maybe it does; maybe it doesn't; I just tabling it for your consideration in troubleshooting. It isn't that far-fetched a connection to make. Otherwise, I wouldn't have offered it up.

You're welcome.

Yeah, let's table line weights as not unrelated.

Good to know. I'll cross that one off the list. Let you know if I got any other bright ideas. Smiley (zwinkernd)

I'm just thinking out loud here...

Might the linked file have some graphic overrides applied on certain views that turn off the visibility of cut patterns or projected surface patterns? What happens if you set the visibility of the linked views to be "by host?" Does it help?

The same view template with everything controlled by host applied to the views gets different results.

Well then that blows my one feeble idea out of the water.

How can you be so sure?  Line weights do affect line pattern spacing gaps because each pattern segment has round ends.  I would match the line weight settings from the host to the link via transfer project standards and choose Line Weight category.

The line weights are being controlled by the host model. They are very thin and work as expected in other views.
