Line based family with 2 levels

Is it possible to create a line based family with two levels in it.

So what I am trying to accomplish is basically to create a family that will indicate the walls that are the fire and smoke barriers.  I don't want to do this with wall type mainly just because a wall is fire rated or built using a certain assembly does not mean it is THE fire barrier for the compartment.  We will frequently build an entire building with 2 hour fire walls... but we still need to indicate on code plans where the different compartments are.  We also want these barriers to be visible on most plans so we find it easiest to just have some sort of model object that traces the wall to indicate this.

The problem occurs when I have a particularly tall space.  I have added a reference plane to control the height of the object manually in these cases but I have users that are constantly forgetting to adjust the height.  What I would like to do is have two levels in a line based family so that similar to the wall it's height at least can be determined by multiple levels.  I want it to remain line based so it can be placed by just tracing around walls AND I would like its height to be level based.

Can anyone think of a work around?

Just use the regular line based family then add a ref plane and a height parameter to assign the height to each instance in the project.

Yeah... I said that is what I have already done.

I want the top constraint to be a level not a reference plane.  So if the level moves... the family adjusts to the new height.  Yes you can globally select similar and change the height of all of them all at once but that's an extra step I want to eliminate.

The answer is likely that Revit does not have the functionality to do it.  I was hoping someone had a work around.

You can use a curtain wall without mullions and a custom panel family with not model element and use nested detail components of your fire tapes.  Draw them with Disallow Join enable.
