Line Based Detail Item

Does anyone know if there is a way to have two lines in a line based detail item. One on each side of the vertical axis? I tried just adding a work plane, a reference line, a line, and a dimension. But it does not work. I have something at the center. When placed in a model, I can adjust the right side just fine, but when adjusting the line of the left side, it also moves the item I have in the center. The default constraint for the default dimension is not the same as the one I made for the right side. There does not seem to be a way to duplicate it.

You should be able to. Post the Family here.

Don't use the in-built Length at all. Create another Length parameter to drive the right side.

That seems to work ok, but is there any way to remove the grip from the middle? And so you know if there is away to keep it from rotating?

No.

...what do you mean by "keep it from rotating"?

I don't have 2020, but I tested in 2022.

Make the family as a detail item (not line based). Change the origin ref plane to not a reference. Add a ref plane on the right and left and constrain with instance parameters. Make sure those ref planes are set as one of the options shown in the attached picture.

You will then have grips in project only at the ends of your lines and when pulled they will not move the symbol in the middle.

Thank you. This works great for the lines.

In the line based one that I made first I was able to put a generic tag in my family and I had it set so it could be moved. I did the same thing, put in a plane and aligned and locked the tag to the plane and it worked. But in a non line based details item, I cannot do that. The align tool does not select the reference plane of the tag. I want to be able to move the tag left and right. I would also like to be able to change width of the label box after it is placed?

The reference planes in the tag need to be set to anything but not a reference so you can select them in your host family.

As for the label box size. you cannot adjust the size of it parametrically, however if you place a new label and do not adjust the grips it will auto grow to fit whatever text you have in it.

Reference plane in the tag is set to weak reference. But I cannot change it. It is grayed out,
