Life Safety Plan steps in Revit of Multi-story building

Is there a good set of Revit steps about the procedure to prepare a Life Safety Plan of a multi-story building (in  this case, a 8 floors Multi-Family), in which the steps include how to prepare each of the views of the floors with the corresponding hatches of the areas of each of the functions?  (sort of a color/area plan, but with hatches, since these are to be printed in black and white).  

I do have several Revit books, but no one that I am aware of, covers this important part of a set of Construction 
Documents preparation - after all, sometimes the only thing that some of the Plans Reviewers look in a set of proposed permittable drawings is the information contained on the Life Safety Plans, to approve or disapprove the proposed project.

Any advise on where to look for the Revit steps for this?

As a mechanical designer that tends to stay in his lane, can you clarify what comprises the Life Safety Plans? Is this egress plans, fire/smoke area plans, fire protection features?

 

My suspicion is that a comprehensive set of instructions won't be readily available, but that individual workflows (V/G templating to show smoke areas for evacuation plans) will be. This will partly be because jurisdictions/prevailing code/enforcement levels vary, and partly because requirements for documentation does not get showcased in presentations as much as automation/graphics enhancements.

@RLY_15 :  Life Safety Plans are basically developed to communicate to the building department and the fire marshal that the building has code compliant exiting in the case of a disaster. It has many other uses, but that is the primary need. 🙂

 

@octavio2 - As much as I would love to be able to point you to something in Revit for your answer, I don't think you will find what you are looking for in a Revit book.  From my experience, every architectural firm has their own way of developing these documents.  At the end of the day, you can break down the process into steps and commands, but it's more important to know what needs to be conveyed... If you are new to the process entirely and are looking for how to develop the plans in general, the NFPA website has a class that is really great for understanding the necessary code for life safety... That may help you with a big portion (not all) of understanding a lot of what needs to be in the drawings.  Equally as important: know your building code requirements, what kind of construction type(s) you are working with, and ADA.  I think a lot of developing this document set is tied to understanding the different codes required in the building. 

 

As for physically creating the drawings...  I have seen them developed as area plans for larger buildings so that the buildings & building types can be colorized... but you really just need a clean and correct base floor plan.  In that sense, you can look to the Revit books for how to create an area plan and how to work with or rooms. you can colorize certain walls using a filter for fire ratings or you can just draft over the walls with a designated line type.  Families... Custom legends and Specialized tags are good to have as well... something with parameters that shows the needed data and highlights the code-required information. For instance, my office has a specialized door tag that calculates and displays pertinent egress data based on parameters stored in the doors. Another big help is using the Color Fill and Route Analysis tools under the Analyze tab in the ribbon. Knowing how to work with schedules and how to leverage your room and area parameters will be a huge help as well. The rest is really all linking documents and annotation.

I'm aware of what they are for, but the question was regarding the specific contents. A 'good set of Revit steps' is not necessarily universal, and whole-topic tutorials are generally presented to be universally applicable. Hence the likely need to find presentations/material regarding specific aspects that comprise the set of plans.

 

Case in point, searching 'life safety' in Autodesk University (https://www.autodesk.com/autodesk-university/search?query=life+safety) turns up presentations on CFD analysis for smoke control.....surely that's not a workflow on every project. And no presentations that serve as a catch-all for life safety topics either.

Yes, apologies.  I misread your initial comment.   I did go back and edit my original post to include some further information.  I agree that there is not likely going to be a comprehensive walkthrough out there.
