Hi,

I'm not sure if I'm even in the correct place to ask but any help is appreciated.

I'm trying to create a new library of products, components, and models to be the "families" in my Revit template. Which means I want this to be the list of families that pop up in the project browser and the folder that immediately opens when I go to place a new component.

Is this possible?

Open a New Project and Load all the Families you want into the Project Browser and then save the Project as a Template (RTE).  Each time you start a Project from this Template, the Families will be in the Project Browser.

...if you are creating a Library Folder, just place it in the location as all your other Library Folders.  Or, identify it's Location in "Places" under Options=>File Locations.

Hi,

That's not what I'm trying to accomplish though. I want the Families in my template to be labeled and arraigned differently. I want the folder that comes up when I click "Place component" to take me to a library of families that is labeled and arraigned differently than how Revit currently has it.

Is that possible?

That's not how Place A Component works.  It places a Family that is already loaded into the Project.  You use Load Family to load a Family into the Project.

If it is in your template the family is already there and will show up when you place a component.

If you want just your Company Library to show when someone goes to load a family you need to change the "FamilyTemplatePath" in the Revit.ini which defaults during the install to the library you specified originally.

Why do it through the ini?  You can set/add defaults via File Locations.

I see lots of "Template" locations....  yeah, you can update the "Places" with custom folders.....but it will still default to the primary library location.

You can change folder hierarchy.

I already said I knew about the Places folders....that is the side pane of the Load Family dialog box.. It doesn't change the default load location, you just have to click on the place instead.

Huh?  Did you test it by starting a new session?  I just did, and it went straight to the folder I put at the top of the "Places" list when I tried to Load a Family.

Hi,

I did try to change the defaults via File Locations. It didn't work the first time, even after re-starting revit, but I'll try again.

Will changing that though, change the families in the properties browser?

Well...shoot.  I stand corrected.  I also realize I never changed my file locations to the server location like I did for everyone else.
