Legend component appearing far below placement

Anonymous

Whenever I place a legend component (front elevation) of a particular door family in a legend it appears very far below where I had intended to place it. Is there something I need to change within the family?

Thanks in advance

Maybe the family is like that. Some families made by beginners are modeled far away from the default insertion point.

Hi, The Legend components of families get placed centered to the point clicked irrespective of their origin points in the families.

Just curious, what is the base for that statement? What I see is that when a family is dragged from the Project Browser into a legend, the cursor is at the insertion point of the family. And if the elements in the family are far away from that center, they display far away from where the cursor is. So the insertion point is still doing the same, regardless of where the family is inserted, in a model view or as a legend component.

What I meant is that the center reference plane in family is the insertion point of the family. While putting in the legend view, wherever we click, that is the point it identifies as insertion point, but in elevation it seems to center to the height of the family.

You are right in saying that the object may be drawn away from the origin. But It also placed the object centrally with respect to the height of the door.

Eg. door height is 7', hence it centered to 3'6 , ie it did not place the bottom of the door to the point clicked in elevation.

Second image shows that it did not consider the center ref plane while placing , it centered the object drawn.( horizontally and vertically).

So may be he has some unwanted line or point in the family away from the origin that is forcing the object to be centrally placed to the point clicked, so check the file for any such (if at all).

Yes, you are correct about how Revit handles that center point of family for legends. Thanks.

So far, the author of the question has not commented anything yet. However, I think that he assumption that the problem is in the family is correct, so, the solution is to open the family and fix the location of the elements that are far away from the center point.
