Does anybody know of a way/trick/hack/modification that can be made to the Revit desktop icon to get it to also launch the Workshare Monitor in the same action?

Have you tried changing the Revit Desktop shortcut to point to a batch command file (a text file you can create with Notepad ending with .cmd extension and saved in your C: drive) which first fires up Workshare Monitor 2015 with this line:
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Worksharing Monitor for Revit 2015\WorksharingMonitor.exe"
And then followed with this line that fires up Revit 2015:
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit 2015\Revit.exe" /language ENU
Area Object Link | Attribute Modifier | Dwg Setup | Feet-Inch Calculator
Layer Apps | List on Steroids | VP Zoom Scales | Exchange App Store
Its an interesting idea, but unfortunately it does not launch Revit until the WSM is closed (the batch file/cmd is waiting for the first element to complete before going on to the 2nd). Also the CMD window stay open, which is a nuisance.
This batch script works for 2013 - not tried it with 2015 though...
@Anonymous off
cd "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit 2013\Program"
start Revit.exe
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Worksharing Monitor for Autodesk Revit 2013"
start WorksharingMonitor.exe
exit
Yup, the final syntax is here. As an added bonus, it appears that WSM does not allow multiple instances of itself, so even opening multiple instances of Revit does not cause multiple instances of WSM. Cheers all!
@Anonymous off
cd "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit 2015"
start Revit.exe /language ENU
cd "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Worksharing Monitor for Revit 2015"
start WorksharingMonitor.exe
exit
Hi,
Great threat. I ran the script for 2016, all fine.
Question how do I get this script to run automatically when a user opens Revit?
C
Just replace any shortcut that the user may use to run Revit with the script. Then when the user clicks on that shortcut, they'll be starting the script file instead of running Revit
Area Object Link |
Attribute Modifier |
Dwg Setup |
Feet-Inch Calculator
Layer Apps |
List on Steroids |
VP Zoom Scales |
Exchange App Store
A batch file doesn't work for me (since I use pinned taskbar icons), and while I try to avoid using add-ins, I just came across this one: Egan Project Startup (free).
EDIT: But feel free to still vote for the idea anyway: Option to start Worksharing Monitor when Revit is launched
