Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a laptop, with the intention of installing Revit and AutoCAD on it. I'm unsure of what would be considered a reasonable good and fast laptop that will run these 2 programs smoothly, etc...
At present, I'm looking at Alienware or Inspiron. See attached link: http://www.dell.com/au/p/laptops#!dlpgid=xps-laptops?~ck=bt&facets=103757~0~5503561,62033~0~5728194,...
I was also told that Latitude might be something to look at too?
Thanks!

@adel_peh hello, you can to check it here the system requirements to run Revit 2017 and autocad 2017 << Click HERE >>. thanks
I always think this question is similar to "how long is a piece of string?". Personal needs, likes and budget always have an impact on the answer to this question.
That being said, if you feel like doing some reading, then I would recommend this Autodesk 2016 AU presentation by Matthew Stachoni. I would recommend reading the handout, rather than watching the presentation. I think around page 70ish looks at laptop devices.
hope it helps and keep us posted on what you end up purchasing.
Actually, personal needs are not the issue at all. The issue is esoteric technical specifications that most laypeople don’t understand or are not even aware of, such as the problem I discovered (after purchasing what I thought was a perfectly suited Asus laptop) with the fact that certain Asus computers evidently force you to go through the Intel to the NVIDIA, which is apparently why I can’t properly run Autocad 2017. I’ve tried downloading the supposed fix (didn’t work); I’ve tried changing the settings to dedicate it, but evidently what Asus considers “dedicated” is not the same as Autocad; etc.
I see this question being asked a lot as well (I know, I’ve asked it myself) and it is so infuriating to have the answer always be, “Personal preference.” I spent days researching the perfect specs and spent half my rent on what should have been the perfect computer only to now own a brick as far as being able to use it for the primary reason (Autocad/Revit) and all because of something I couldn’t possibly have known was a fatal issue.
Is it really too much to ask for a software company to say: these exact make and models with these exact hardware specs are what we recommend for our incredibly expensive product to operate properly? If you like Mac, you need to buy this, this or this one. If you like PC, you need to buy this, this or this one. Done.

mmm? Sounds like 2017 wasn't such a good year for you @Anonymous. Made some bad choices; did you? Well, a bright new beginning is just around the corner.
For Auld Lang Syne. ![]()
@Anonymous, to make a good start in 2018 I am giving you a link to a very good Revit configuration.
Maybe not perfect but just a very good one.
If you like to make it a better configuration you can add dual processor, more RAM (if you use pointclouds you should), dual video card, Raid configurations, more diskspace,...
Possibilities are endless.
And that is why autodesk cannot advice exact make or model.
What exactly is your problem with autocad 2017?
Hi @Anonymous
Welcome to the Autodesk Community! Of course, we hear you![]()

Ive been looking at an Asus zenbook pro for my new machine... is there anyway to check the asus specs to see if it will run the same way yours did @Anonymous? It claims dedicated GPu but now I'm questioning everything.
Go to Asus website or the one selling it to look for the specs of that particular model.
May I make a suggestion? You might have a chat with your Autodesk reseller. The two that I’ve dealt with over the years, are also providers of hardware solutions. Their tech guys have always been very helpful to me. Give yours a call. ![]()
What zenbook pro do you have in mind?
I looked at the specs of the zenbook pro ux501vw and it has a nvidia gforce 960M onboard.
Looks like a good laptop to me.
Personally I like the dell precision mobile workstations a lot.
It all depends on the budget you have to spend.
Yo can also buy a second hand workstation.
