landing before flight

can i use the landing tool to create a landing before a flight of stairs or am i limited to using the floor tool to create a platform before beginning the stair run

also i created a ourectangle within an editable floor boundary to create a hole for a stair case but revit doesn't allow me to proceed . can i use the ttwshaft tool to create a hole in the floor instead

what does having to 2 short parallel lines on either side of a model line of a floor outline in edit boundary mode mean?

thanks

  1. I find using the floor tool is easiest, but you can modify the sketch of a stair to create a landing out of the top tread. The landing tool is for bridging 2 flights of stairs.
  2. Why doesn't Revit let you proceed? There's usually an error that pops up and it's helpful to read them as it will often tell you what needs to be fixed to complete the action. You can use the openings tool to create a void for the stair too.
  3. Those two lines indicate the span direction for structural elements within a structural floor. I tend to ignore it and create the structure separately if required. You can also delete the line that is hosting those two lines and redraw it make the lines disappear.

thanks for rewponse.

the stair in question has a raised floor or platform before the first tread, so the question was can i edit the first tread to be the size of a 3ft by 3ft landing before the flight begins

Absolutely. If this landing has the same height as the risers in the stair then that is how I would do it. If the landing needs to have a different height then create it as a separate element, a floor would be best, then offset the base of the stair by that amount.

With the Railing tool under the Architecture tab.

how do i edit the individual tread lines when i go into the edit stair mode in revit 2020, when i click edit stair it only shows the grips with arrows that allows me to increase or reduce the entire run's length and width but the individual lines representing treads don't turn the usual purple color that allows them to be edited. what am i doing wrong?

When you edit the stair, select the option to convert the stair to a sketch.

Once you've done that make sure you use the correct line types (Boundary, Riser, and Stair Path) when modifying the sketch.
