Labels shared nested

Good day,

I have host family A and nested family B with lighting fixtures families.

In family B (a roof+ceiling) I have 3 positions for lighting fixtures (1, 2 and 3).

I added a label for each position to be able to choose which lighting fixture the user wants to pick.

How do I make this label work in host family A?

Thanks in advance!

Please explain your question better. Family B is a roof + ceiling?

Family A = a steel frame (generic model) + roof (family B)

Family B = the roof (generic model)

I added labels to the lighting fixtures in family B and I loaded family B in family A.

Now I want to control the parameter in my project, but I do not know how to connect the labels from family B to family A.

Noooo, please. Roofs and ceilings as families (generic models)? Please use the tools that the software provides. If you are participating in a project, other team members need to receive your model with elements in their proper categories.

This was decided by a BIM expert for our company since we only have 5 default roofs we use and we always have to work with them.

With generic models I can make these roofs in the best detailed way and make it nested instead of the need of drawing the roof for each unit we draw.

It is a rational choice, but I do hope you can help me with the label problem

Then, sorry. I'm afraid I can't help you on that. Please ask the BIM expert who recommended this approach, for a solution about the labels inside the 'roof' families.

Set the light fixture family to Shared then reload it into Family B, then reload Family B into Family A. In Family A, create a new Family Type parameter and choose Light Fixture category. That should be it.

Roof+Ceiling+Light Fixture Family?  I'm confused as well, but very, very curious. Would you mind sharing the family?  Maybe we're just misunderstanding your description.

Hereby the infamous family we're talking about.

You see that there are, right now, 3 options for families on 3 positions.

These are controled by 9 yes/no parameters, but soon we move to 5 options on 3 positions, which would result in 15 yes/no parameters.

To make this easier I want to use the label parameter for lighting fixtures.

This is a nested family, so the parameter must be controlable by the host family.
