Keep Dimensions from a linked file whilst reloading groups?

Hey there!

I need some help for Revit dimensions at my firm, it involves dimensions with reloading groups used in multiple linked files.

We have a model dashboard which contains multiple unit internal layouts as groups, the same unit internals are used in different buildings which each have their own Revit project. We then reload the groups into each Revit link as they’re updated. Each building (as its own Revit link) is then linked into a Revit container file, which we have set up our sheets for all the buildings.

Each time we reload our groups, the dimensions drawn in the main container file go missing.

When we use attached detail groups in the individual linked building file we can’t bring them forward without creating different view templates for the annotation properties. Not all instances of the room require dimensions, only certain sheets and views.

Is there anyway to do this without creating an absurd amount of room templates? We currently have 200+ plans to issue and want to keep unique view templates to a minimum.

  1. Are the links workshared?
  2. If yes, when you edit/update the groups, you do it via locals or you Update straight to the central link
  3. Do these groups contain hosted elements with hosts outside group?

Detail groups that are attached to Model groups are view dependant. You can see this by selecting the model group and editing the visibilty of each attached detail group associated with it.

This said, for view dependant annotations in a linked project to show up in the parent project, you will have to rely on a linked view in the visibility graphics of the parent project. As you probably have a view template for multiple plan views in which the groups show up, you will have to exclude the linked project settings from the template and assign them manually to a linked view for each corresponding floor in the linked project.

Hope this helps,

P.S. Clarification:
Container file = Parent project
