Joist Span

I'd like to use the span direction tool. I'm not modelling structure or beams. There's no way to control the span otherwise? Just draw this in? I

Control the span of what? According to you, there's nothing there to "control".

What are you controlling if you don't have beams or joists? I am lost.

Create a line based detail family and nest in a generic annotation with a label.

the OP could just select the floor (assuming one is modeled) and check "Structural" under its Properties. Then it will accept the Span Direction Symbol.  Or, just open the Span Direction Family, change its Category to Generic Anno, save under a new name and load that Family into the Project for use.

I created this two families for that same purpose. They are 2D components and you can used it on your plans Slope Arrow and Span Direction.  Once you load it you can select what you want to be visible or not visible.

I'm pretty new to the Revit game and don't have much experience with editing families. I've been scouring the internet for a call out that can show joist spans as well as the extents, so your direction family is just what I've been looking for minus one small thing. The second arrow, which we use to show the extents of the joists (the one you have with the solid arrow heads), is never shown as perpendicular to the joist span arrow. Is there a way to change the family so that the extent arrow angle would be adjustable but still connect with the intersecting arrow at the circle?

Here's an example of how we use the callout. If possible, it would be great for the extents arrow to be able to change angles (as in rotates about the circle) but still keep the circle located on the span arrow. If not, even just at an angle would be great.
