Issues with Aligning the sides of a created family

Hello,

I created some casework families in Revit and the left/right sides of my casework doesn't want to align to the sides of other casework. I have no idea why this is, the error message is pretty generic. (See Below)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

See attached for an example.

Seems to work fine for me. The family types all flex properly and I can align other cabinets in a Project. Did you align and lock the family to something in the project?

...the family flexes from the center outward. I can see there being an issue if you align and lock one end of the cabinet to another cabinet end and then try to change it to a different type.

Nevermind, I see the problem. You cannot have a zero width filler. It can't make that condition. So, a good workround is the 1/32" rule. Make a zero width condition 1/32" width and the filler invisible in that condition.  Understand?

Are you using Revit 2016? or 2018? because when I had the cabinets in Revit 2014 I didn't have this issue.

I would like to attach the edge of the casework to the edge of another. Not filler to filler, is this possible?

2018. But it still wouldn't work in any version. You're collapsing an extrusion to zero. Can't be done.

...a quick fix would be to remove the Ref. Planes at the far Left and Right, and then edit both Filler Extrusions and add the Filler Width dimension to the extrusion sketch.  Then set filler width inside the Project based on the condition.  But, if the cabinet is abutting another, you still can's have a filler width of 0'-0".

They can TOUCH, but not ATTACH with an actual Join in Revit, inside the project.

You could model them as nested families, or a single family with (2) cabinets that share a common side/panel.

You can have Filler Width controlled by another Filler Width Parameter. That parameter would actually be the one that drives the geometry.

Parameter 1: User enters width

Parameter 2 (the one that actually drives the geometry): if(Parameter 1<1/32", 1/32", Parameter 1)

Parameter 3 (On/Off): Parameter 1<1/32"

Parameter 3 is the visibility state for the Fillers. If their is no filler needed, the Fillers will be 1/32" at their minimum width and invisible.

Get it?

...Just to be clear: the Filler's Visibility parameter needs to be associated to the On/Off parameter, And, get rid of those Weak Reference Ref. Planes that they are constrained to. Constrain the sketch line with the labeled dimension instead.

You could just move one snapping to another instead of align the edges.  Then there is no need to fix the family whatsoever.

Really???  Go to the family and enter 0'-0" for filler width. Are you satisfied with the result?

Why you need to enter 0 for the filler widths, just turn them off if you don't want them.

I guess that means your satisfied. I'm not.

So you are satisfied with turning off a 1/32" filler panel but you are not with turning off a 3" panel?  Are you also satisfied with contradicting yourself?

This is what I was doing, but the error in the first post was happening. I'm going to attach a dimension from the reference plain on the edge of the casework to the outside edge of the filler geometry

Thank you for the response!
