This is regarding a doubt with our project. We have a villa project with three different roof types but having the same architectural layout. Everything is same in these three types except for the roof outline. So we have completed all the work with type a and wanted to know if we could link this revit file with other types b and c. Incase if there are minor changes in the architectural layout we have to work on every option with the same changes so is there an easy way around this? It would save a lot of time...thanks

You just need to do what you just said. Link the Revit file. When you do it, all elements can be scheduled. You can also invert and link all roofs to the architecture, and just control each visibility throught filters. The second option seems easier to document.
It is unclear in your description as to what is modelled in what project file (a, b, c). I am assuming that you have a fully modelled ville with walls and roofs in project file A.
I see two options:
The clear advantage to using design options, is there is no linking required and all changes will be seen by the user as they synchronise the model with others (if you are in a worksharing workflow). You have all the documentation views in the same place with minimal duplication of views, visibility settings and formatting.
Is there a specific reason you what to have seperate files for each roof type?
Hope this helps,
