Is possible to insert a permeability parameter into Revit?

Hello!

I would like to insert a permeability value as a parameter into Revit.

I mean Permeability as the measurement of the ability of fluids to flow through materials [mm/s] and not the Vapor Permeability [ng/(Pa·s·m²)].

I know that I can put whatever I want inside a Revit, but I would put this parameter in the Material Browser' window.

It is possible (for example changing the density from air to liquid as a water)?

Thanks in advanced for your collaboration.

Hello @Anonymous

Would it work/fit under discipline Energy > Mechanical - Flow?  (L/s) and categorize is as Material ... or you have a specific reason not to use Mechanical flow...scheduling purposes for instance...

@RDAOU thanks you for your answer. Can you show me the window where I could manage the flow in mm/s please?

Permeability I mean the liquid flow that you can find an example in attached.

Hello @Anonymous

First I would like to appologize I didn;t elaborate well in my previous answer. Parameter Flow can not be added to the Material Browser (You can check with API forum if they can do that)

You mentioned Permeability in one part of your question and then used mm/s ... what I meant to say previously is that mm/s or L/s more related to Flow .. which may be found in Family Parameters Properties; under Discipline (Piping) - Type (Flow) and Not Material Browser

PS: At the moment I don't have access to Revit ... but if you are familiar with family parameters you should easily find it

Sorry again

@RDAOU  thanks again four your support.

The flow that you mean is in L/s or cubic meters per second, I cannot set in mm/s

Hello @Anonymous

Sorry my previous reply wasn't helpful 🙂

I'm just trying to refrain from answering No to your original question and see if we can find a solution instead.

The question is slightly confusing and might need clarification in order to conclude a proper reply. In principle, Revit cannot use mm/s for permeability or flow of liquids through certain mediums and the reason is because mm/s, which as per international standard of units stands for vilocity, is not applicable for Flow and Permeability.

What I would personally do;

  1. if it is Flow what I need then it has to be L/s, L.s−1, cc/s, cc.s−1, cbm/s, cbm−1 or equivelant; otherwise, it has to follow the International System of Units for permeability ng/(Ps.s.sqm) given by default in revit. The formula for the latter relates/takes into account the discharge (flow rate) properties, fluid physical properties, Porsosity of the medium, the applied presure difference...etc which Revit cannot override ie: there is way around ng/(Ps.s.sqm)
  2. Alternatively; one can add a text category family parameter (not in material browser) and add in it whichever value desired with the respective unit which one wishs to use/display.
