I find myself modeling alot in 3d recently
Is this a good thing - should I get better at modeling this way or should I stay away from it
Thanks

The problem we often have when modeling in 2D is not realizing the Z's of our model. Viewing it in 3D this problem is solved. I normally model much more in 3D than in 2D. Plan and section views can help you with alignments, dimensions etc, but when you really check if the modeling is correct it is in 3D.

That is a strange question to ask here. This is a BIM World. Modeling is central to Building Information Modeling.
...maybe you question is more about LOD. Google it.

I think he is referring to whether it is good practice to model directly in 3d or to model in plan and section views and check in 3d. In each case it will depend on what is more comfortable and precise but personally I usually model directly in 3D

Sorry, what I meant is that in Revit (or similar) is it better to work in 3D view when modeling or to just stick to PLAN and ELEVATION view
Use the approach thar works best. For instance, modeling Walls in Plan View is a whole lot easier that modeling Walls in 3D. I think we could all agree on that; right?
...still, we're ALWAYS modeling on a 2D Work Plane. Maybe showing the Work Plane would make it easier.

I hardly ever model in 3D, usually only if I'm doing sweeps or something like that. But I always have a 3D view open to see whats happening as I model in plan/elevation. I just find it a lot easier to be precise in a "2D" view.
