Is it best to enhance elevations with 2d linework as opposed to modeling?

eave1.JPG

I just modeling the above for a typical eave detail in a residential project. I know I'll get faster with time but this

seems like alot of work to model for every eave on a residential project. If I do not model this however, the elevations will not look correct. Would it be based to just model roof masses and then enhance the elevations with  detail lines?

I have no idea how long it took you.  10 minutes? 15 minutes? Was Obama still the President of the United States when you started it?

To answer whether to model or only draw with detail elements, I start by asking myself two questions:

  1. Is it possible this part of the project will change in the future?
  2. How many views in Revit depend on this part of the project?

If the answer to #1 is yes, I usually model it. If the answer to #2 is "more than one," I usually model it. Both my responses are because model changes need only be done once to satisfy all views, while detailing elements must be applied and changed in each view which shows that part of the project.

I intentionally said "usually" in both cases. This question is ultimately project-specific and also depends on the personal preferences.

My eave took like a half hour, But I suppose it all a matter of developing a system and becoming efficient..

I see the your straight forward approach to this detail, thank you

Half hour? Not bad.  If fact, if this is your first time modeling a Pork Chop, I'd say you did great! Better than I did my first time.

It's definitely something you want to model.  FWIW.
