Integrate point cloud and Revit model

Hello :

I have a problem about integrate point cloud and Revit model. I want to match this two model with on registration the coordinate, Because i want use two data to compare, they are from the same of environment (for example indoor space), the one is 3D model from Revit and the other one is from laser scanner's point cloud model. I want to know what method can achieve this goal.

You need to clean your scan data and the best way to do it  is with one software that you can do it, there is a lot if you have the collection you can use Recap and then convert in a recap extension.Once done that is the same as a CAD in terms of insertion obviously changes the tab to select but it is basically the same questions. You have to have before located your Revit model so that they agree for that you have to change your coordinates in the model with some reference of the point cloud and how to insert it if you want it with shared coordinates or origin with origin.

Well, is an empty office space, so, before start the remodelation we had some challenges.
First- We needed the approval of the building manager, the constraints were these: 
- It wasn't allowed to remove or modify the HVAC ducts
- Manager didn't allow making holes or modifications to the structure.
Second 
-The point cloud file helped us to detect interferences between engineerings and structure.
-We could compare between the measures made on the site and the measures of the point cloud files. It is worth mentioning that using this technology we can reduce 
- We got the materials we needed for the remodelation with the quantity schedules in revit.

Sorry for the late reply. My work in progress as follow. I use FARO laser scanner to obtain point cloud data and use revit to build a BIM model, then if i want to match these model (point cloud model and revit model) in revit, how can i do that let point cloud model accurate match the BIM model. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Thanks for responding!

I was in touch with a recap specialist and as mentioned by @apadillami6 the following steps are recommended:

1) Save the FLS file format from faro focus scanner (also see Software for Processing FLS Files*)

2) AutoCAD/ ReCap supports the FLS format 

3) Import the FLS file in Recap, while importing you have options for coordinate setup

4) You can also clean the file for extraneous elements like trees, unnecessary points, and data.)

5) Save the file in an RCS format

6) Link the point cloud file in Revit from Insert>Link>Point cloud

7) See this article for positioning options while inserting the link (Origin to Origin is preferred to match models)

@Viveka_CD and @Anonymous, this is my example for "XYZ" FILES 

-In this case the company brought me a file with this format "cloud.xyz" , so I started with Revit 2017 and I went to "INSERT" tab, panel " LINK"  and then i clicked in the tool "POINT CLOUD"

-Then appears this window and click open. 

-In the next step appears a windows showing this sentence " The following files are not indexed format. So that window allow you to creat an rcs. file. Then click "YES"

-In the next and the last window the program will show  you in what kind of unit you want to work the file, so in my case I choosed "Meters" and then I click " START INDEXING" 

- Next go to "INSERT"  tab, click on "POINT CLOUD" tool,  select the "RCP" file and 

click open. Select a 3D view and that's all. 😃

Thanks for your help and provide as follow process. But i still have some problem, the first is how can make sure revit model and point cloud model accurate overlapping ? And second is how to know the deviation betweem the two models ? At last what is the basic of match the revit model and point cloud model ? According coordinate or feature point ?

I did it manually and this topic that you are looking for is related with shared coordinates, maybe you can ask something like " Use of shared cordinates with point cloud files" in the forum.
