Instance parameters in family will not change in revit 2018.1

Hi all -

This same post is found on the Structure Forum. I am reposting here to get more traction.

In our 2018 projects, instance parameters do not retain their revised value.. Ex Instance parameter: Height, will not revise when a new number is punched in. As the mouse leaves the Properties interface, the parameter reverts back to it's original value.

This family is newly made in 2018. The project is newly made in 2018. Please respond if you too have had the same experience and what solutions you have found. If this is posted elsewhere, I'd love to read those posts too. I have not found many.

Thanks!

Just tried to replicate your situation - created a 2018 family with instance parameters, dropped it into a 2018 project - no problems whatsoever. Can you share the family that shows this behavior?

Sure, here is one example. This has happened to a handful of families over the past month. Not just this one.

Worked fine for me. Please see file for the 25' high strut. Did you hit Apply after editing the numbers? That was what I needed to do, the geometry would not update by just typing the numbers and hitting Enter.

Hitting Apply does sometimes work. Which is great. Why would hitting enter not work for 2018?

You're welcome. I have no idea why Enter didn't work.

The programmer must have broken it.  I didn't need to hit Apply in any earlier versions.  Why would anyone hit Enter or OK without accepting the changes?

Same problem here.  I initially replied to the post in the Structural Forum, but I strictly use Architectural.  Exact same issue though.

After making a change to a family parameter in the properties pallette, either by clicking a checkbox or by manually typing a size of window trim for example, just moving the cursor out of the pallette to the drawing area is supposed to make the change take affect.  However, sometimes it does, sometimes it does not.  Sometimes I have to repeat the same process 3 or 4x before the change is made.  In the past I've been in the habit of pressing enter after making a parameter change, and it always worked.  For some reason, that stopped working, so I tried to get into the habit of just moving the cursor to the drawing area - but, as noted above, that works less than half the time.  Also, pressing "apply" after the change almost never works.

I can't pinpoint exactly when this issue first arose, but I think it was soon after the last major 2018 update.

I am also having this issue with instance parameters of families.

As stated above you noticed that hitting apply will sometimes work to force the new information into the parameter. This is very troubling.

My Revit build number is shown below.

This problem went away after I removed the Structural Precast Extension for Revit 2018. I suggest that if you do not need this extension you should uninstall it.

The problem still exists in Revit 2018.3. I uninstalled the Structural Precast extension and that fixed it.
